Assistant Headteacher - September 2017

Closing date for applications: 10am Monday 27th February 2017

A significant career opportunity has become available at Sandringham School, a high performing and extremely popular Outstanding School situated in the picturesque city of Saint Albans, conveniently located just 20 minutes by train from London.

Are you ready for change? Do you want an opportunity to do things you may only have dreamed about? Would you like to work in an exceptional learning environment where we walk and talk learning and believe there are no limits to what can be achieved? If so, you may wish to consider Sandringham as your next career move.

Following the internal promotion of two Assistant Headteachers to deputy headship at the school, we are seeking to appoint an exceptional person to join the leadership team as Assistant Headteacher and work with the staff at the school in the task of taking Sandringham on to even greater achievement. We are looking for someone who is ambitious and eventually wants to lead a school of their own in the future.
Over the years we have developed a national reputation for innovation and creativity, with an amazing learning culture where staff can experiment and push the boundaries of learning so that students not only excel academically but also leave as extremely well-balanced and confident young adults. We pride ourselves in delivering high-quality outcomes across the curriculum. Significant work is done to promote the STEM subjects and we also place a strong emphasis on the Arts. Sandringham also co-runs the local Teaching School Alliance and operates as an Accredited Initial Teacher Training Provider for the area.

Our mission statement is simple – ‘Everybody can be Somebody’. Visitors always comment on the wonderful learning atmosphere at the school; we are a heavily oversubscribed, high-achieving school with a reputation for academic excellence. The school is consistently judged as one of the 100 top performing non-selective schools in the country and is graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Since converting to academy status in 2011 over £8m of capital investment has been invested to create a very powerful learning environment.
The successful candidate must have:
  • an expert knowledge about the process of learning
  • excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • the ability to make a difference and to become a deputy headteacher within 3 – 5 years.
Precise responsibilities will be negotiated upon appointment. There are currently a number of variables which will resolve in the next month, allowing for final decisions on responsibilities in discussion with all members of the new team. It is unlikely, however, that pastoral responsibilities will be in the scope of this position. Flexibility will be an important criteria for selection.
