Schools Direct
Initial Teacher Training at Alban TSH (formerly Alban Federation) have been training teachers since 2004, working closely with a partnership of schools across Hertfordshire. Sandringham school is the lead school for the partnership and the base for secondary teacher training.
We have a wealth of expertise and success at training and developing teachers at the start of their careers. We provide high quality training for partner schools and mentors to ensure the best possible school placement experience for all our trainees. We provide Initial Teacher Training in a wide range of secondary subjects as well as Primary (ages 3-7 and 5-11), offering both School Direct Salaried and School Direct Tuition Fee places in local schools. We offer full time as well as part time (3 or 4 day per week) training courses. For September 2024 we are pleased to be delivering courses in partnership with the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) allowing us to combine our local knowledge, expertise and success with a national evidence-based organisation. What do we offer our trainees? Our full-time programmes last for one academic year, from September to July. As a trainee teacher, you’ll be based at one of our partner schools, where you’ll learn to teach alongside expert classroom practitioners in an exciting, vibrant environment. During the course you will spend one day a week (Thursday) at Core Training. This will be a blended model of online and face-to-face sessions, based at one of our training locations. This is a school-centred, immersive programme where you will be teaching across the year, the rest of your week is spent in your school placements. The training sessions are facilitated by expert practitioners who will model outstanding planning, teaching and assessment to support your development as a teacher. You will have lots of opportunities to interact and learn from peers from across subjects and phases. On the School Direct (fee-paying) route you will need to pay tuition fees. The course fees for 2024 to 2025 are £9,250 for both UK and International students. UK and EU students are eligible for a student loan to cover 100% of the fees. There are generous bursaries available for a number of subjects. The School Direct (salaried) means you will be employed by the school and receive a salary while you train. These places are usually offered to candidates who are already working in schools and are starting the course with some classroom experience.
