Welcome to Sandringham – your new school.
We would like to welcome you to Sandringham School and what will be the start of a wonderful period in your lives. Secondary school is incredibly exciting, challenging and rewarding and you will join many thousands of children who have been educated at the school.
The process of preparing for starting at Sandringham began at the beginning of April, with Mr. Kemp contacting all feeder schools to gather information on our new Year 7 students.
Under normal circumstances, we would have met with each student during our primary visits. Since this is not possible, the transition process has been adjusted to ensure that your experience is at least as good as previous year groups, and that you feel welcomed and prepared for the start of secondary school.
We are not sure yet whether there will be a transition day on Thursday 9th July although recent announcements suggest that with Year 6 back at school, we may be able to continue with transition day. If this does not happen, our contingency is to hold the induction day on Thursday 3rd September 2020 before all other students return. However, before then you will have had plenty of time to get prepared for the new start and we are confident you will not miss out on anything.
Over the next few weeks there will be more communications to look out for, as follows:
All about me survey: from Monday 18th May
Mr Kemp will be contacting students with a welcome message from the pastoral team and a ‘All about me’ survey for them to complete. This replaces the visits we would have had with students in their schools. Please take time to complete this important survey, because we will use the information to help construct tutor groups as well as making other important decisions for your start at the school.
Summer activities: from Monday 1st June
In the first week after the half term holiday, the Performance Director for Year 7 will be in contact with a welcome message from them, and information on summer activities for students to complete.
Induction Pack: from Monday 22nd June
During this week, you will be e-mailed a full induction pack containing key information for starting, and a list of tutor group allocations.
The most important thing for us is that you have all the information you require to make the transition and that you are well prepared for the move from your junior schools.
We are looking forward to meeting you all in September.

Moving on: Reading List
Below is a document showing a Recommended Reading List for Year 6 into 7 students, that we think you will enjoy reading. They are available in the School Learning Resource Centre, in bookshops or from local libraries.
Some books (*) are also available in eBook format via our VLeBooks website, (see MySandstorm under “Library”) once you start school.
We would like you to use this list during the summer to read at least one of the books or hopefully more during the holidays. You can, of course, read other books by the same author on this list. We look forward to talking about them with you when you arrive at school in September.
We really enjoy receiving recommendations from students, so if we do not have your favourite book, please let us know and we may be able to buy it for the Learning Resource Centre.
For your information you will be given time during lessons to visit the Learning Resource Centre once a week and you will also need a fiction book to read during registration periods.
We hope that you enjoy the stories you choose to read and we look forward to meeting you in September when you become a member of our Learning Resource Centre.
